Austin Graff 3 weeks agoSometimes Urban Targets are a bit smaller. This isn't the case here. Spread across two floors, they have everything a larger Target would have from groceries to travel toiletries to toys. It's clean (from my experience) and staff were helpful. There are many self-check-out aisles making quick trips possible.
DrJay DrJay 5 months agoSome staff are excellent while others have too much bad attitude to be working in CUSTOMER ORIENTATED RETAIL. One presumed AM tonight felt the need to imply the customers were stupid relative to her intellectual superiority because shed set out a few shopping trolleys by way of indicating the self-check out registers were closed (~915pm). Some of us entered the other side without trolleys, but regardless, no employee, let alone "management" should be making such comments as to imply how idiotic we customers are for not seeing, interpreting & understanding whatever she'd done. Such self inflated arrogance in retail is so widespread now & clearly influenced from the too down. How unfortunate they don't know these things.
Railroad Bluesman 2 months agoI don't understand these mini-Targets, I went in and most of what I wanted to buy was not available. The overall selection is so limited the store doesn't serve for much, it is difficult to navigate over several floors. I now know better than to visit convenience store like Targets.
Brian Gallagher 2 months agoPro tip: If you are going to put half the store behind glass (including socks), maybe you should hire enough people to have someone actually open the cabinet. I only hit the "request an employee" button 15 times and wasted 20 minutes. But that's okay, because now I know better for the future! Clearly, my mistake wasn't hitting the button, but going here in the first place. :)
Bunker Blake a month agoI love Target, and the Chestnut Street Philadelphia location is a prime example of how a major retail brand can adapt to city living without losing what makes it great. I grew up visiting Target in the suburbs, so discovering this location in Philadelphia immediately felt familiar. It maintains the brand's accessibility and comfort while smartly adapting to city life. The store is consistently clean, bright, organized, and well-stocked. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grocery selection is genuinely fresh, and the overall experience feels thoughtful and efficient. What Target does especially well is discernment. The product mix feels curated rather than crowded, with a smart balance of affordability, quality, and style across groceries, home goods, essentials, and private-label products. Their app also stands out, particularly the real-time inventory tools that make pickup and delivery seamless. More broadly, Target is one of the few major retailers that has preserved the strengths of brick-and-mortar shopping while still evolving for modern life. I suspect part of that comes from the company’s Minnesota roots and the strong Scandinavian influence embedded in the culture there. You can feel it in the stores: clean layouts, restrained design, thoughtful presentation, efficiency paired with warmth, and an emphasis on functionality without sacrificing quality. It stands apart from most big-box retail in America. The Chestnut Street location embodies that philosophy perfectly. Similar to what brands like Barnes & Noble and Bloomingdale’s have done with their urban stores, Target has adapted away from oversized suburban formats in certain city environments without sacrificing the core experience. The nearby location by the Barnes Foundation is excellent as well. It’s larger than the Chestnut Street store but not a sprawling mega store, making it especially well-suited for city living while still offering a broader inventory and the convenience of free parking. Both locations feel like thoughtful adaptations of the traditional suburban retail model rather than watered-down versions. As parents, we’ve also been consistently impressed by Target’s private-label products. Their diapers, formula, yogurt pouches, peanut butter, dairy products, pasta, and other everyday essentials have all been of excellent quality at prices meaningfully lower than those of many national brands. Target’s Philadelphia stores demonstrate how thoughtful, adaptable retail can succeed in urban environments while preserving the core values that built customer loyalty in the first place. Highly recommended!
